It All Began In 1928
The story begins a long time ago when makers of TVs worldwide were setting the standards. PAL TV originated in Germany in 1928, where it is still the standard today along with the UK, Europe, Africa, Australia and South America. PAL stands for Phase Alternating Lines. The Germans have since added 100 more lines of resolution to the picture (625 versus 525 for NTSC) and improved the color system to get more consistent hues. |
PAL TV Is German
PAL TV is not the general standard in North America, which uses NTSC along with Central America and Japan. NTSC was developed first and that's why other systems such as PAL TV are superior-because other countries learned from the US's mistakes. Some jokingly claim that NTSC stands for "never twice the same color!" NTSC set cannot receive PAL transmissions simply because they are completely different inside. |
French High Resolution
France invented SECAM and still use this standard, along with Eastern Europe and Russia. SECAM is a French acronym, for anyone who wants to know! The resolution of SECAM TV was far higher than PAL TV or NTSC to begin with, and was amazingly close to resolutions common today. |
